Tokyo Tower and Owl Cafe
This week was rather busy. Finals have started, and now that I’m feeling how truly limited my time is here, I’m trying to check off places on my list. As I mentioned in my last post, I went to the new Pokemon Center that opened in Tokyo Sky Tree. I also went to Tokyo Tower and an owl cafe.
The Pokemon Center is pretty cool for any Pokemon lover. The Pokemon Center in Ikebukuro has big statues of Lucario (ルカリオ) and Mewtwo (ミュウツー). However, the Pokemon Center in Tokyo Sky Tree had two big Rayquaza (レックウザ) statues coming from the ceiling. It was pretty cool to see. I’m a geek, I know, haha. The only downside is that all of the merchandise is focused around the more popular Pokemon. If your favorite Pokemon isn’t very popular, chances are you wont find anything.
On Sunday I went to Tokyo Tower with one of my Japanese friends. Tokyo Tower at night looks absolutely awesome because it’s all lit up. It has two observation decks, and we decided to take the stairs up to the first deck. It was 600 steps! But we were having fun just chatting, so the time passed quickly. The first observation deck was covered with blue hanging lights, which looked really pretty (although if you’re trying to take pictures of the city the blue lights can make for an annoying reflection on the glass). If you’re looking to get good pictures of the city, I recommend going up to the second observation deck. The first observation deck is good if you’re looking just to have a night of fun surrounded by beautiful scenery.
Then, on Wednesday I went to an owl cafe. It’s called a cafe, but it’s not a normal cafe like you would think of. While they do have bottled drinks, they don’t sell any coffee or food. Instead, for 1 hour you get to go into a room with about 30 different owls and just hang out with them! They have owls of all different colors and sizes, and you are free to pet them. If you ask the staff, you can have one on your arm, your shoulder, or even your head! All of the owls were so pretty, and I have to say, the owls can make some really amusing expressions. I’ve seen owls in zoos and stuff before, but this was the first time I had ever seen one up close, let alone be able to touch it. It was a super enjoyable experience. I’m actually super sad I can’t have one as a pet, haha.
