Hoboken, New Jersey
In my last post (“New York for New Year’s – Day 2“), I talked about going to Times Square to see the ball drop for New Year’s. After that, it was time to head home, but we were in no rush so we decided to do some local sightseeing near the hotel we had stayed at in New Jersey. We decided to stop at a store called Carlo’s Bakery, which is the setting of a popular TV show “Cake Boss.” We also stopped at Basile’s Pizza for lunch and stopped by the waterfront to get a good view of New York.
We got lunch first and decided to just stop at one of the restaurants on the way that happened to look good. We ended up at Basile’s Pizza, and while we sat eating our pizza, we were surprised when two older gentlemen came in and began serenading the customers with the song “New York, New York.” They were quite the interesting pair.
After lunch, we stopped at Carlo’s Bakery. I, personally, have never seen Cake Boss, but my boyfriend used to enjoy the show, so we decided to stop by. When you arrived, you had to take a ticket, and when your number was up, one of the workers would assist you with your order. There is no line or anything, so you are free to wander around the small shop and appreciate all the goods. It was about a 20 minute wait to be helped, but it was still cool because we could at least say that we had been there.
Not too far from the bakery and the pizza shop was the waterfront. We made our way down to the pier and soon found the New York City skyline spread out before us in all it’s glory. If you’re looking for a free place to get great pictures of the city, I definitely this spot.
Unfortunately, we soon had to head back home. It was an exhausting but overall trip. Now, I look forward to my next adventure.
